Cyber Attacks – it is a shame

This is a great definition for what I have to deal with on a continuing basis

Cyber security is the state or process of protecting and recovering networks, devices and programs from any type of cyberattack. Cyberattacks are an evolving danger to organizations, employees and consumers. They may be designed to access or destroy sensitive data or extort money.”

I can’t tell you how much time is spent on protecting. The threats are always evolving are are growing in number per unit time. More of my time on a daily basis is devoted to just this. We have backups that are fairly sophisticated in that they can re-create a baseline for any day, it keeps track of all this in a small repository by only tracking the site changes that occur for that day. A simple concept…I just affirmed this as one of my code changes had to be pulled from the archives. The effort worked perfectly, I recovered and applied my lost code changes back into the baseline. Relief — not fun, but really does happen very often these days with Solid State Devices in place (SSD).

External Database Ports Normally closed in our firewall configurations

Database ports (1433,1434,3306,5432) are nominally closed in our firewall configurations. We have the capability to open these should a need be identified to read directly from the server database. If we do open these ports they will be secured such that will only be opened to specific IP addresses. for securities sake.
